Sorority and Panhellenic students tried to initiate softball competitions. We played 1 game in the Mad Bowl and were told it was "too exciting" for boys and were denied permission to hold any more games there. We were told we could play on golf course, but found the ground much too rough, so gave up on any such activity.

Additional comments |
Since I was not directly out of high school, and was seeking a professional goal, the attitude of the Univ. toward it's women students was not as devastating as it otherwise might have been. I did attend the football games, but none of the other men's sport games. And of course there was no athletic experience available for the women. I don't play tennis, so I don't recall if we were allowed to use the tennis courts. One young lady (or maybe more) was reprimanded by the Dean of Women for wearing jeans on grounds. Women weren't allowed in the Raven Society. Lychnos (to which I was invited) was a poor substitute.
