Everything was smaller then- less complicated and congested. Nurses wore white and had to pass inspection-dress code. Males at U.Va. wore coats and ties.

No one thing. We studied hard and worked hard. Each day presented challenging cases and cares. Due to the absence of many Drs. and nurses who joined the armed forces, as students we tried to do our part for the war effort in their absence.

As a senior I was head nurse on "F" ward, which was a 30 bed unit for colored males. They received the same nursing care as those patients who were on the Barringer Wings. I still remember their gratitude.

After leaving U.Va. and 3 children grown and finished college, I took a refresher course at J. Sargeant Reynolds Comm. College and worked afterwards for 15 years. Retired at 70.
