Comments on important issues Mostly we were grateful WWII ended just as we entered nursing school. The transition from military to civilian economy and society were prominent concerns.

Comments on vivid memories There were many-Miss Beasley telling us "there is no job so lowly that it can't be done with dignity, as long as it is honest." The special spirit among staff and patients in the hospital at Christmas time.

Comments on influence of cultural background Although I'd known many black people as I grew up, it wasn't until I worked many weeks on C ward (colored women's) and became their servant that I found out there really isn't a great deal of difference between us.
Did UVA prepare you for post-UVA life?
Comments on preparedness Yes, although I did not practice very long professionally, my nursing background had prepared me for my role as nurturer and caregiver to many family members, and what mother doesn't need nursing skils?

Comments on most significant event My 46 year marriage to a stable, wise, and caring husband. He recognized my right to be my own person and together we reared 3 fine sons.
