What weekends? I was in nursing! When we did have an occasional one- I dated and swam at Frye's Springs. Attended dances and frat parties. Oh yes, Carol's tea room.

We had very restrictive rules, but ate and played with the med. students. Nursing students were the only females on campus.

I was priveleged to be student scrub nurse for the famous neurosurgeon Dr. Gayle Crutchfield. Upon graduation, I was invited to join his team. But was unable to due to previous commitment to marriage. This was the highlight of my U.Va. experience.

I have been connected with 2 schools of nursing in my career and often wonder if the U.Va. is following in the same trend. I find graduates now have little discipline and very little clinical experience. Am I too old fashioned? I have been able to keep up by seeking continuing education. Have we forgotten "the patient comes first?" Is bedside nursing only a memory?
