Did UVA prepare you for post-UVA life? |
|
Comments on preparedness |
Absolutely! As a graduate of the School of Nursing and living in NC in 1960, the doors were opened by 2 doctors for me to teach in the School of Nursing in Wilson. This led to a long, productive career and my return in 1969 to the School of Ed. This is a long story.

Additional comments |
In 1972 Dr. F.M. Shepard left the Univ., but prior to this he encouraged me to attend the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program which I did. In 1972 Dr. Page Booker became my mentor and I assisted him with patients at the Blue Ridge School. This led to my employment at Woodberry Forest School and in 1981 to the Miller School. One of the most helpful, positive, and supportive couples were Mr. and Mrs. Alex Sawyer. We became friends in 1949 and Mrs. Sawyer is still my closest friend. (For anyone not knowing Mr. Sawyer-) He was the commanding officer of the Marine Unit at U.Va. in 1950. He returned in 1965 to the University in Personnel and later was an assistant Dir. of the med. center until his death.
