Most memorable UVA educational experience |
|
Comments on memorable educational experience |
It was very hard- so much to do and not enough hours in the day. 5:30 wake up, 6am breakfast, 7am work in hospital 3-4 hours. 10-to classes. 12-lunch break. 1-classes. 4-6 back in hospital. 6-supper. 7-10-study-sleep. And too much nursing responsibility too soon. But as far as I know we didn't harm anyone. We learned a lot and expanded all our capabilities to the utmost. Overall, it was a great experience.

Vivid UVA memories |

Comments on vivid memories |
Was working 11-7 shift on student health unit when allies landed on Normandy Beach. Sam Goldwyn, Jr. brought his radio out to nursing station. Between pt. calls we listened to invasion most of night. Working on dietary setting up special diet trays when atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. Was my day off when war ended, such joy and celebrating with friends. The miracle of seeing first baby born. Fear, quaking in my shoes when had to scrub with Dr. Morton. Taking care of the first pt. at UVA that had penicillin. Scrubbing and observing maybe the first artificial insemination at U.Va. Marching down the walk on the lawn to graduation. Beautiful days, I was so happy. One Sunday afternoon working on men's surgical unit in charge. A feud had erupted between 2 families, 5 men with gun shot wounds were brought in. Bleeding, yelling, swearing, such chaos. Dr.'s, med students came running to help, I will never forget that.
