Additional comments U.Va. sent 6 of us to Oklahoma Indian Reservation in 1945. I enjoyed that very much because at the time I was just a country girl and had never been anywhere. I came to Charlottesville, I had a lot to overcome there as I had never even answered a telephone. Was really frightened the first time on the ward when it was up to me to do so. I spent a lot of time crying, just plain homesick and frightened with all those modern things. On top of that I also spent a lot of time in my room because I could not control my hair - at least once a mo. my whole stay - because when my hair grew [thing?] and shaggy touched my collar. To this day my hair is unmanageable-now I can afford a perm which helps some. After the first year I learned to cope and enjoyed my nursing training.
