Miss Mabel Montgomery RN, & Miss Roy Beasley RN were excellent. The MD's who taught us were also good most of the time (some were a bit condescending).

I loved the operating room. We scrubbed and assisted in those days. Dr. Morton was much revered by many of us. I also liked delivery room on obstetrics ( I was working in there Dec. 7, 1941 when Pearl Harbor was bombed).

Because we lived and worked in a more or less closed community at that time, a closeness and feeling of kinship which I imagine is no longer present in the School of Nursing.

There were no exta curricular oragnizations of any consequence for us. I had been in everything in high school, but in nursing school we were there to work.

1939-42 We were discouraged from attending the dances, etc that were held on campus, because our work schedules were so strenuous.

Not applicable in my opinion. I was single. Student nurses were expelled if they married and it was found out.

I was a WASP, I fitted in but didn't have the money or time to do much except in a very limited way socially.

Yes, I joined the Army in Sept.,1942 and went overseas with the 8th Evauation Hospital (an affiliated unit from U.Va.). I came home in Feb, 1946 a seasoned RN.

WWII changed my life completely. I went overseas to Africa for 3.5 years and Italy. I came back a mature, cultured woman.

WWII. After the war I further studied anesthesia. I met and married a professional engineer. We have had 50 yrs of fascinating times around the country.

I became a nurse anethetist and served overseas in WWII with the 8th Evacuation Hospital which was organized at U.Va. in 1942. I was in the Army 3.5 years overseas. There have been many barriers. I have always fought quietly for equality.
