Comments on choice to attend UVA To obtain a B.S. in Nursing (instead of a diploma in nursing).
How did you finance UVA?
Comments on financing My mother paid all tuition, room, board and other expenses. Our tuition, room, and board at U.Va. was very low because we worked weekends, holidays and summers in the hospital (a requirement).

Comments on professor interactions I had very little contact with our instructors outside the classroom/hospital. Inside, they seemed to prefer an adversarial role.

Incidents that caused these community feelings I felt we were not accepted more for being in nursing rather than being women. In 1968 I helped represent the nursing faculty in graduation exercises. A male faculty member seated next to me asked which school I was from. I responded nursing - his response was "Oh" - end of conversation.
