Comments on classroom experiences Nursing classes were not that stimulating. Preferred classes at MWC and in greater University (psych courses).

Comments on life impact Patients at the hospital - I did not feel prepared for situations I was placed in during weekend, summer work which was required for room and board payback.

Comments on weekend activities 4 weekend days each month I worked in U.Va. Hospital to pay room, board, laundry fees. Other days were spent with my family or fiance later with husband.

Incidents that caused these community feelings Social life for nursing students with greater university was nonexistant for most. I was told that McKim Hall students were seen negatively by the "Virginia Gentlemen."

Comments on preparedness Not really. Faculty provided little direct clinical supervision during my time as a student. During clinical time we were at the mercy of the hospital nursing staff.

Personal factors that affected professional life
Comments on personal factors Divorce - had not intended to spend my adult life as a career woman. I needed to readjust my goals so that I could be successful as a parent and a professional woman.

Additional comments I was pleased to observe that women at U.Va. now seem to enjoy full acceptance and have equal standing with the gentlemen. That was my impression of my daughter's experience in 1980s.
