Comments on professor interactions |
College--interaction varied a lot--inside the classroom the student/teacher relationship predominated. There were a few social relationships (1-2). In only one course (Sociology of the Family) was the relationship scholarly.

Memories of Charlottesville |
|
Comments on Charlottesville memories |
Unfortunately, I can only remember the area immediately surrounding the University. In my Public Health course I made a home visit to a family in Belmont, which is the same today. Recently, I made home visits, as a home health nurse, to a man who lived on Kenwood Lane, near the bypass. He said that in the mid sixties that area was considered to be the country--After finishing school in 1972 I lived out 29N in a cottage where Colonial Auton is now.

Did UVA prepare you for post-UVA life? |
|
Comments on preparedness |
I'm not sure that my U.Va. education (BSN) made much difference. My master's education allowed me to practice as an advanced practice nurse (clinical nurse specialist) which placed me in a position of clinical and professional leadership.

Most significant post-UVA events |
|
Comments on most significant event |
In 1989 the U.Va. Hospital chose to eliminate all clinical nurse specialist positions (N=12), including mine. We received certified letters announcing and informing us of their decision. We [were?] given a year's notice and the year that followed was characterized by meaness, betrayal and deceit. Despited the fact that we took our concern to the President of the University, we were not helped. I felt like I was being turned out from my University by outsiders. To this day I feel that my University has changed.

I stayed in Charlottesville after graduation. I remember thinking how difficult it was to make friends without the ready made University community.
