Comments on professor interactions No contact except in class-room. In the class room it was strictly professional.
Who impacted your life at UVA?
Comments on life impact Ann Hemmings, our nursing arts instructor. She was the epitome of nursing. She set the standard and held us all to it. The head nurses in the hospital saw to it that we experienced all that we could while under their dept.

Memories of Charlottesville
Comments on Charlottesville memories It was a quiet, green, Southern town. Few automobiles among the students. People weren't in such a mad rush. City limits ended at the Tavern on Barracks Road--after that all country. You could always get a good breakfast at the Diner.
Did you feel part of UVA community? Did you feel part of community?
Incidents that caused these community feelings We were fairly isolated and work-class schedules made it impossible to get outside the medical community. Even in this group, nurses were the lowest on the ladder and often treated as such.

Additional comments I was always impressed with the honor code. It has accompanied me all my life, it is who you are. I see young people every day who profess to live by the code, but think its alright to tell a tiny lie or abuse another. Its certainly not what I experienced at U.Va. I've always been proud of my nursing education. I still work as hard today as I did then, and I don't bend my standards. I can still hear some of those old nurses "If you don't have anything to do, find something."
