My first weeks at McKim Hall included many late nights discussing patients and hospital life. It was all so intense and exciting. I felt really fortunate to be there.
Polio epidemic in late '50s - much responsibility - opportunity for exceptional [learning?]
Friend and I (both student nurses) took ride with professor who was working on [sending?] monkey to the moon - space program starting.
Also color TV starting.

Single - too busy in hospital to get married. Came later while still in Charlottesville.

Woman - considered non-student - "side-lines" person but glad to be there then. Being white helped me but shut out others. Finally began to get letters requesting money as alumnae considered as students when fund raising.

Best nursing education available. Diploma - but not enough to pursue degree when I wanted. Our nursing school class has a newsletter which we print every year.
