Comments on life impact Zula Mae Baber because she was a very caring and compassionate woman. And Anne Hemmings because she was an excellent role model for a young student. Margaret Tyson, Mrs. Virginia Edwards

Comments on memorable educational experience I really can't separate my U.Va. memories of my teen years and my college years. It was hard and busy!

Comments on weekend activities With my fiancee when I wasn't scheduled for clinical experience - visiting our parents, picnicking, etc.

Comments on important issues The nursing program was too demanding for time to be involved in much. We worked 40 hours/week plus classes and study.

Comments on Charlottesville memories There was a wonderful Italian restaurant on West Main St. across from what was once [Sam?] - First Baptist Church was located at 3rd and Jefferson Streets.
Did you feel part of UVA community? Did you feel part of community?
Incidents that caused these community feelings All our classes (almost all), our residence, and many activities were in McKim Hall. Our schedules were tough.
Vivid UVA memories
Comments on vivid memories One of my most vivid memories was the segregation at the U.Va. Hospital and the abominable condition on the black wards in the basement of the hospital. I remember the afternoon teas in McKim Hall. Very pleasant respite.

Comments on influence of marital status I was engaged most of my time at U.Va. That certainly limited my involvement in U.Va. activities when I had time off.

Comments on most significant event Having 2 children and 4 grandchildren. Being involved in nursing eduction and most profoundly taking a position in a college faculty. Being a founding member of the local free clinic. Traveling to Europe, Canada, Scandinavia, and Great Britain. Getting my doctorate.

Comments on barriers question Being a nurse and a woman often influenced the weight of my decisions and contributions (negatively) when I worked in a hospital. At the college I felt I had an equal voice.
