|
Incidents that caused these community feelings |
I have many pleasant memories of good times with my friends in BSU. We had hay rides, trips to Richmond for the symphony, and Saturday night spaghetti suppers at the BSU center. These experiences as well as church activities helped me to stay centered in the life or death mileu in which I was for my education. It's difficult to select one experience as many run together after so many years.

Additional comments |
As nursing students under 21 years of age, we were required to live in McKim Hall. We had a housemother living in the residence and we had to sign out whenever we left the building after 6pm, as I recall. Many of us had single rooms and others shared a room on the front of McKim. Those of us with single rooms had a basin in our rooms with a bath on the hall - we had a buzzer system to the room to announce our friends arrivals - be they boys or girls. We had to go to the front lobby to sign out for a date, meet our date, and sign in from our dates - a housemother was always "checking us out" both as we left and when we returned. There was more diploma students than those of us getting the BSN and sometimes there was friction because they seemed to believe that we had special privileges. We did have the privilege of being a member of various U groups and participating in the U graduation ceremonies as well as the usual SON ceremonies from Capping through Pinning. Usually we all got along well and we have friends in both groups.
