After a year as a staff nurse at the VA Hospital I went to the University of Iowa for my B.S. degree. While there I received classes and 8 weeks in Public Health--I really enjoyed my 5 years with the Visiting Nurse Association in Omaha. I much preferred it to being an RN in the hospital

Additional comments |
I was in the diploma RN program. It helped so much to work in the hospital as a student nurse. The experience made the transition from student to RN much easier. However, afterwards, I felt working as much as we did wasn't good. The student nurses really staffed (underlined) the hospital but the experience was valuable. I wished I had had classes and experiences in Public Health Nursing that wasn't given to diploma students at that time.
