I married a Univ. economic student, Robert Coffman, in Feb., 1951 in the Univ. chapel after I graduated. It's such a quaint church. Our first child was born at U.Va. hospital. My husband died in 1981 after 30 years of marriage. My time at the Univ. was mostly happy ones. I grew up fast there learning about everything from birth to death. My education allowed me to work in DC, Alaska, and Oregon.

I am a white Caucasion and had no problems. Everything was very nice and never heard any problems for the white. It bothered me that black patients were in the sub-basement and didn't receive the same food. It was my favorite place to work, the patients were so appreciative.
